KKTV – Colorado Springs school district teams up with non-profit to give teachers affordable housing

OLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Harriscon School District 2 along with We Fortify, a local non-profit, is stepping up to make sure teachers can have an apartment of their own at an affordable price.

Wendy’s Village is a $6.5 million project that hopes to provide teachers with a one-bedroom, 352-square-foot apartment for $825 a month, waiving the first and last month. Officials who coordinated the project say they needed to provide teachers with an incentive to want to teach in Colorado Springs. Creating cost-friendly housing was the method they thought would be most effective.

Wendy’s Village is expected to be located on Mountain Vista Community School property where the old soccer field was, the area is near S. Circle Drive and Highway 24 on the south side of Colorado Springs.

District 2 does not have to raise any money and no tax money will go towards Wendy’s Village. A timeline on when the community will be completed was not available.
